Two Records Broken, Three Set at Missouri Invitational

Columbia, Mo. – The Westminster College Blue Jays broke two records and set three new records at the Missouri Invitational Friday afternoon. The Blue Jays had four athletes finish in the top fifteen at a meet where they were the only Division III team competing against three Division I teams, four Division II teams, and multiple NAIA and Junior College teams.

Senior Sarah Koestner outdid herself in the 1000-meter run, taking four seconds off her previous record. She placed third with a 3:15.01 time. Sophomore Brier Skogsberg finished the 1000-meter run in sixth with a time of 3:23.16. Koestner and Skogsberg also ran the mile run, finishing in 14th (5:27.68) and 18th (5:36.74), respectively.

Junior Amanda Killgore broke the long jump record, resetting it at 4.47 meters. She also ran the 60-meter dash, finishing in 8.89 seconds. Junior Tanisha Terrell finished just before Killgore in the 60-meter dash with a 8.67 time.

Three Blue Jays were the first to compete in events since bringing back the track and field program in 2009.

Sophomore Jesse Edwards set the new program record for the 5000-meter run after placing 5th with a 16:08.95 time. Senior Jake Burch finished in 14th place (18:35.08).

Junior Michael Lutz set the program record for shot put, throwing 10.07 meters. Lutz also competed in the 60-meter dash and finished in 7.89 seconds.

Senior Matt Borst set a new program record for the 1000-meter run. He finished in 2:44.88 and placed third. Borst also ran the mile run, placing 16th with a 4:40.83 time.

Junior Nyima Njie ran the 200-meter dash in 28.70 seconds. Senior Sarah Ogar finished the 400-meter dash in 1:0439. Freshman Rachel Bade and Killgore finished just seconds apart, placing 36th (1:06.06) and 37th (1:07.67), respectively.

Sophomore Bret Robertson ran the 400-meter dash for the Blue Jays and finished in 1:02.98.

Freshman Ryan Dyer competed in the 800-meter run and finished in 2:19.22. Dyer also ran the 600-meter run, placing 9th (1:29.72).

Freshman Raul Belman Romero ran the 600-meter run with Dyer, finished with a time of 1:37.90. Belman Romero also competed in the long jump and jumped 5.03 meters.

The Blue Jays take a week off before heading back to Mizzou for the Missouri Collegiate Challenge on Friday, February 21.
