Softball Drops Both In SLIAC Games of the Week

The Westminster softball team had their conference win streak snapped during the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) Games of the Week versus Greenville College Saturday afternoon. The Westminster Blue Jays dropped game one, 6-1, and was short-gamed in game two, 14-2. They are now 7-7 overall and 4-2 in conference play.

The first three innings of game one were uneventful, but the Blue Jays put a run on the board in the top of the fourth. Freshman Allison Biggs hit a single to left field and stole second. Senior Rai’an Harris stepped up to the plate and singled to shortstop, scoring Biggs.

Greenville answered back with two runs in the bottom of the fourth to take the 2-1 lead. They added four runs in the fifth to take the 6-1 lead, and the Blue Jays were unable to score again.

Senior Brittany Lee (5-4) was credited with the loss. She struck out four in the five innings pitched. Freshman Charlotte King went 2-3 from the plate.

Greenville started game two with 10 runs in the second inning. The Blue Jays scored two in the top of the third with a Biggs’ double, scoring freshman Bri Peterson and King.

The Blue Jays were unable to overcome the second inning deficit, and Greenville added four more runs in the third to short-game the Blue Jays 14-2.

The Blue Jays finished the game with 9 hits.

Freshman Alyson Hahn (1-3) was credited with the loss. She pitched 1.1 innings. Lee came in to relief her, pitching 2.2 innings and striking out three. Senior Becca Rose, Harris and Biggs each went 2-3 from the plate. Biggs finished with 2 RBI.

The Blue Jays travel to Jacksonville, Illinois on Tuesday, April 1, to face Illinois College. The doubleheader begins at 3:00 p.m.
