Rockers Named SLIAC Co-Defensive Player of the Year, 4 Blue Jays To All-SLIAC Teams
The St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) released the 2014 All-Conference award winners following the SLIAC Tournament Championship game on Friday, November 7.
The Westminster Blue Jays had five players receiving awards. Freshman Abby Rockers was named the Co-Defensive Player of the Year and was a First Team All-SLIAC performer. Senior Monica Bittner and juniors Tayisah Pohtos and Eileen Koppy were named to the Second Team All-SLIAC, and junior Britany Paglusch was named to the SLIAC All-Sportsmanship Team.
Rockers was a part of the Westminster defense that allowed just seven goals during conference action. She and the Blue Jays finished the year with five shutouts, and she helped limit the opposing teams to 97 shots on goal throughout the season. She was named the SLIAC Defensive Player of the Week for the week of September 29-October 5.
Bittner scored seven goals and one assist, totaling 15 points on the season. She finished the season with an 86.4 shot on goal percentage and one game-winning goal. Bittner was named the Westminster Player of the Week on October 13.
Pohtos tallied 17 points with seven goals and three assists. She finished the season with a 56.8 shot on goal percentage, including four game winning goals. Pohtos broke the Westminster career record for game-winning goals in the 3-0 win over Spalding. She was named the SLIAC Offensive Player of the Week for the week of September 1- September 7 and the Westminster Player of the Week on September 15 and October 20.
Koppy racked up 14 points with her five goals and four assists. She finished the season with a 66.7 shot on goal percentage and had the game-winning goal against Iowa Wesleyan.
The Blue Jays finished the season with an 8-7-2 record and placed fourth in the SLIAC with a 5-2-2 record.
