Blue Jays Down Blackburn, 67-52

Carlinville, Ill. – The Westminster Blue Jays downed the Blackburn Beavers Saturday afternoon, 67-52. The Blue Jays are 2-0 against Blackburn for the season after defeating the Beavers 70-51 earlier this season. The Blue Jays are now 11-8 overall and 8-4 in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC).

The Blue Jays took a 6-0 lead before the Beavers made it on the board. The Blue Jays held the 10-4 lead, but Blackburn scored seven points to tie the game up at 11-11. The Blue Jays held the lead and with 4:22 left in the half, they hit an 11-3 run to send them into halftime up 36-27.

The Blue Jays continued their lead and with 6:30 left in the game, they pulled a 16 point lead, 56-40. They were held to just three points in the final two minutes, but came out with the 67-52 win.

The Blue Jays shot 46.4 percent from the field and 35 percent from the three-point line. The Blue Jays were led by junior Verdis Lee Jr. with 13 points. Senior Jordan Jones added 11 points after going 5-for-6 from the field. Senior Joe James and junior Brandon Moore added in 10 points each. Moore recorded 7 assists and James had four steals.

The Blue Jays will host Greenville College on Wednesday, February 5, at 8:00 p.m.
