Baseball Drops Two To #2 Webster University

The Westminster baseball team dropped two games to the #2 ranked Webster University, 6-0 and 3-2. The Westminster Blue Jays are now 17-11 overall and 11-9 in conference play, knocking them into fifth place in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC).

The Webster Gorloks started game one with a three-run homerun in the bottom of the first. They scored another run in the first and two more in the third.

The Blue Jays were unable to score, ending the game with a 6-0 shut out.

Sophomore Will Miller (3-3) was credited with the loss after pitching one inning. Freshman Tyler Picha went 2-3 from the plate.

The Gorloks scored first in game two, scoring on a RBI single in the second inning.

The Blue Jays tied the game with a RBI single by sophomore Deion Hughes, scoring junior Cameron Backes.

The game stayed tied until the bottom of the eighth when the Gorloks put up two runs, giving them a 3-1 lead.

In the top of the ninth, sophomore Ryan Loethen hit a RBI ground out to shortstop to score De. Hughes. The Blue Jays were held from scoring again, ending the game with a 3-2 loss.

Freshman Miller Bowles (0-1) was credited with the loss after pitching three innings and striking out three. Sophomore Ryan Strohm pitched the first five innings, allowing one run and striking out three. De. Hughes went 2-3 from the plate with one RBI.

The Blue Jays host Iowa Wesleyan for the three-game conference series on the weekend of April 26. A doubleheader will be played on Saturday, April 26 starting at 1:00 p.m. They will close out the series on Sunday, April 27 with a nine-inning game at 1:00 p.m. The Blue Jays will also be celebrating Alumni Weekend.
