Westminster Alumna Inspires Fellow Educators as Keynote Speaker at STEM Conference
Westminster alumna and 2014 ISEA STEM Champion Award Winner, Andrea Sagely ’96 (above) attended the ISEA STEM expo this year as the keynote speaker on October 12 in Branson, Missouri.
ISEA International (pronounced Isaiah) is an international non-profit organization which encourages interdisciplinary academic discourse and exposure for culturally diverse organizations and individuals working with art, science, and technology. The STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) Education Association Conference is held each year to train educators in best STEM teaching practices, encourage innovation and creativity for STEM ideas, and promote and recognize outstanding STEM educators and programs.
“I am passionate about STEM education for ALL of our children in elementary, middle, and high school,” says Andrea. “Getting to be the keynote gave me an opportunity to inspire other educators to capture the spirit of STEM. “
Andrea has almost 20 years of experience in the public school system, and she has played an integral role in the development of Broken Arrow Public School’s STEM Program where she currently serves as an Elementary STEM Instructional Specialist. Throughout her teaching career, Andrea has been awarded over $130,000 in competitive teacher grants and she belongs to various professional organizations dedicated to furthering the education of teachers. When not working for Broken Arrow Public Schools or serving on the Executive Advisory Council for the Tulsa Regional STEM Alliance, Andrea is leading STEM Professional Development Workshops for teachers, school districts, and other community groups interested in STEM.
While at Westminster, Andrea was an Education major and Biology minor. Andrea was also a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority, Beta Beta Beta (biology), and Kappa Delta Pi (education). She is currently pursuing her master’s degree in School Administration from Northeastern State University while residing in Tulsa, Oklahoma with her husband of 18 years and twin daughters.
