Alumnus Sworn in as University City Mayor

Terry Crow, ’84 ΚΑ, was sworn in as mayor of University City, MO, in May 2018. Crow earned a juris doctorate from the University of Missouri-Columbia School of Law in 1987 and has served on the city council of University City since 2008. Read up on everything else Crow has been involved in since his days majoring in accounting and political science at Westminster.

Which of your achievements are you most proud of? I am very proud to have been the founder of the Edward Jones Trust Company. I was given the opportunity by Edward Jones to create a new subsidiary in a field of business that had not previously existed at the firm.

What organizations outside of work are you involved in? I serve on the board of the St. Louis Community Foundation and the St. Louis Civic Pride Foundation. I have previously served on the boards of the St. Louis County Children’s Service Fund (Chairman), Planned Parenthood of St. Louis, Doorways Interfaith Residences (Chairman), and Opera Theatre of St. Louis.

What is your favorite Westminster memory? During my time at Westminster, I served as KA president, which was fortunate for me because that paid for my room and board my last two years, which is how it worked back then!

How did your Westminster education help you find your purpose? Westminster taught me so much, both academically and how to navigate within the business, political, and legal communities. The liberal arts education you receive at Westminster provides a broad base of knowledge that helped me to be more adept in situations that were constantly changing.

Who were your favorite Westminster faculty members? I had so many faculty members that took a personal interest in me. I was the first member of my family to attend college. Some of my favorites were Dr. Southern, Dr. Jones, and Dr. Bleifuss. I worked in the book store my first two years at Westminster, and all of the ladies working there took an interest in my success. During my junior and senior years, Sally Reynolds in the Placement Office was very helpful to me, particularly helping me to find my first job with a law firm while I was in law school. Pat Kirby and David Humphreys were also very helpful to me in finding scholarship opportunities for me. The William Clark Scholarship helped carry me through my junior and senior years.

Can you tell a little bit about your family? I have two children: William, age 18, and Grace, age 15.
