Alumni Have Opportunity to Relive Memories at President’s Alumni Retreat Weekend
This summer, Westminster College alumni can stir their passions for learning and leadership and re-capture a taste of college life during the first-ever President’s Summer Alumni Retreat, to be held July 29-31. The extended motivational weekend will bring former classmates and professors together, plus offer insight on leadership, community-building, problem-solving, and more from our own faculty as well as top national and international business figures.
In addition to keynote lectures, a series which has been called “The Last Lecture,” by Professors Mike Amspoker, Dave Collins, John Langton and Wayne Zade, as well as lectures from visiting speakers, attendees will enjoy breakout sessions with additional favorite faculty including Keith Hardeman (emcee for the weekend), Bill Parrish, Kurt Jefferson, Mary Majerus, Bob Seelinger, Kent Palmer, Carolyn Perry and more.
“We want to offer our alumni an experience that will bring back all those wonderful memories of college life in a relaxed setting with their friends and professors and recharge their batteries with inspiration from some of the top national and international motivational speakers,” says Westminster College President Dr. Benjamin Ola. Akande. “Our alums will be able to go back to dorm life and relive their fun college times with those who shared them the first time around and enjoy such Fulton treasures and pleasures as the National Churchill Museum and the famous milkshakes at Sault’s Drug Store.”
The weekend will include all meals, dorm and programs. You may attend the retreat with a $1000 tax-deductible contribution to the Westminster Fund.
Participants will network on leadership, the importance of the liberal arts and the value of the Westminster educational experience with sessions on these topics by national and international experts:
- “Leadership in the 21st Century” by David Pendleton, Associate Fellow, Said Business School, Oxford University, England— this launching session will address what is lacking in key leaders today, what character traits must be developed to solve today’s complex world problems and how participants can evaluate themselves as leaders;
- “Entrepreneurship for the Future” by Maxine Clark, the Founder of Build-a-Bear Workshop—participants will learn what critical thinking skills they must develop to be at the forefront of entrepreneurial ventures in business and their communities and the power of volunteering and philanthropy from a national leader in entrepreneurship; and
- “Building Dynamic Communities” by Chris Krehmeyer, Chief Executive Officer of Beyond Housing—attendees will be challenged to evaluate their commitment to and involvement in service within their communities and to seek more dynamic and effective strategies for social change by a national expert in effective community-building.
“Through these classes with national and international leaders and our own faculty, we believe our alumni will experience the best of what a college like Westminster has to offer and walk away both personally and professionally transformed by the experience,” says President Akande. “We want them to leave with the reaffirmation that their private, liberal arts education was not only transformational but continues to be highly relevant to the 21st century.”
