Alumni Weekend 2016: Welcome Back to ‘Breakthrough Class’ of 1991

At Westminster College, 1991 was a breakthrough year in a number of ways. Enrollment jumped to a new high of 761 students. Female student enrollment jumped from 81 to 94. The sculpture Breakthrough, created by Sir Winston Churchill’s granddaughter Edwina Sandys, was dedicated during the Class of 1991’s senior year, with President Ronald Reagan in attendance. Churchill’s last surviving child, Lady Soames, came to campus to deliver the ninth Kemper Lecture.

There was plenty of breakthrough controversy, too. A new alcohol policy brought with it campus uproar. Intramural football lost its practice field to the varsity team. The “Drop Your Pants and Dance” fall fling saw a dance floor filled with men in boxer shorts. It’s clear the Class of 1991 has more than enough stories to go around.

What do you remember most about your days at Westminster? Alumni Weekend 2016 (April 21 – 24) marks the 25th anniversary of the Class of 1991 and offers the perfect opportunity to reconnect with good friends.
