Westminster Alums Represent Miami Triad

Westminster alumni at a recent meeting realized they were representing the Miami Triad: from left to right, Kirk Carpenter ’65 (Beta Theta Pi), Woody Cozad  ’66 (Sigma Chi) and Warren Erdman ’81 (Phi Delta Theta).

The Miami Triad refers to three men’s social fraternities founded at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio in the 19th century: Beta Theta Pi (1839), Phi Delta Theta (1848), and Sigma Chi (1855).  It has been the tradition at some campuses, including Westminster, that the three men’s social fraternities hold an annual party to commemorate their tie to each other and the Miami Triad’s place in Greek history.

Beta Theta Pi was founded at Westminster College in 1868, followed by the founding of Phi Delta Theta in 1880 and Sigma Chi in 1949.
