Summer in Africa 2015: Westmo Serves Boldly, from Dr. Bob Hansen
Westminster’s Associate Professor/Organizational Leadership Program Coordinator Dr. Bob Hansen has been organizing trips to Africa with Westminster students for the past 9 years.
In this post on the Humanity for Children web site, Hansen talks about the difficulty challenges, rewards, and lessons learned on the trip:
“All of our Humanity for Children project teams, which consist mostly of Westminster College students, know that our time in Africa is not a trip for tourists, nor is it a study trip — it is work.”
He also shares his perspective on this year’s Westminster team:
“I’ve learned over the past nine years that every team has its own personality. This team has so many strengths — partly because it is absolutely the most diverse that we’ve ever had. Each one brings a different set of life experiences, cultural/religious/spiritual backgrounds, and personal strengths to the team. And they are brave! They have not retreated from any new or challenging experience. They are such great examples of what it means to have a Westminster education — they think critically, act humbly and serve boldly. Thanks to all of you who have supported them on this journey.”
