Westminster Students Make a Global Impact with Summer Internships

Nearly 100 Westminster students are participating in internship programs during summer 2013. According to a 2013 survey conducted by the National Association of Colleges & Employers (NACE), over 70% of the responding employers of college graduates say they prefer to hire candidates with relevant work experience, and the best way to get that experience is by doing an internship.

Students often do not realize the importance of their internship until they are in one, and many will comment at the end of their internship: “I learned so much more than I thought I would!”

A summer experience often leads to full employment. Many employers look at their interns as future employees. If they can hire a past intern to fill an entry-level position upon graduation, that recruiter has just saved hours reviewing applications and recruiting on campuses to fill a position, not to mention the additional hours needed to train an employee who is not familiar with the company.
