Meet Abdullah Al-Hadeethi, Intercultural Engagement Fellow

Westminster is home to more than 160 students from 70 different countries. The Office of Intercultural Engagement creates opportunities where members of the Westminster community can gain the tools to thrive in a diverse environment and connect with people who are different from themselves. The office provides programming centered on diversity education and the celebration of different cultures and traditions.

As the 2014-15 Westminster Fellow for Intercultural Engagement, Abdullah Al-Hadeethi ’14 works closely with the Diversity Center to promote events, seminars, leadership retreats, and dialogues for students. Any student at Westminster can come to the Intercultural Engagement Office to initiate their own programs and event ideas; Abdullah will be there to support them with materials, funds, and direction if they need it. The easiest way to get involved is by attending any of the bi-weekly diversity dialogues held on campus. Students are invited to join in a community discussion of a decided topic over lunch.

Abdullah himself is originally from Iraq. While attending Westminster he majored in Transnational Studies, Middle Eastern Studies, and Business Administration. What he loves the most about working at Westminster is the flexibility he has. “There is a lot of freedom with the fellowship,” he says. “I can do so much for the students. It’s a great transition from being a student to real-world work.” He also loves being a part of the community and working with students.
