Faculty Spotlight: Associate Professor of Accounting Elise Bartley

For students at Westminster, the opportunity to form friendships with professors in our small classes and through office visits is one of the greatest perks our college has to offer. Professor Elise Bartley, a great accountant and favorite professor for many at our school, has many professional accomplishments to be proud of. However, in wanting students to get to know her a little better we decided to ask her some more personal questions. Here are her responses:

What made you decide to teach at Westminster specifically?

I am from mid-Missouri, so have always had a high opinion of Westminster. When I was offered the position, I was excited to be able to be part of such a great institution with such a worthy mission.

What professional accomplishment are you most proud of? Why?

I have earned two awards that I’m particularly proud of. I was chosen as the Junior Faculty member of the year for the social sciences division a few years ago and also received the Parents Association Faculty award. I am proud of these because I take great pride in my teaching and was honored to have others acknowledge this, as well.

Can you tell us about your family?

I live with my husband, Tucker, and daughter Gwynn.

What was the last book you read? Did you enjoy it?

Moo, Baa, La La La. It’s Gwynn’s favorite. I don’t have much time to read anything now other than my toddler’s favorites!

What is your favorite phone app and why?

Google Calendar. I put everything on my calendar, so having it always handy is a lifesaver.

Favorite guilty pleasure?

Klondike ice cream bars.

Where are you most likely to be found on a Sunday afternoon?

Watching the Chiefs. My husband is a high school football coach, so our fall revolves around football!

What are three words others would use to describe you?

My husband Tucker says, “No indoor voice.”

Any random talents?

I can balance a spoon on the end of my nose.

What is something most people don’t know that you do?

My husband and I love to ski, both water and snow. We spend a lot of time at the lake in the summer on our old ski boat and go snow skiing every winter.

A big thank you to Professor Bartley for answering our questions!
