Emerson Fellowship for Washington D.C. Public Policy Internship Awarded to Junior Leo Lutz

Leo Lutz, a junior at Westminster College from California, MO, will be spending his summer interning in Washington, D.C. under one of the College’s most prestigious fellowship programs named in memory of the late Missouri Congressman Bill Emerson.

“I am extremely excited and grateful for this opportunity,” says Lutz.  “This fellowship will allow me to intern in an area of particular interest to me, give me a generous stipend for livAcademics-EmersonFellow-LeoLutzing expenses and provide me with the chance to meet public policy leaders in Washington, D.C.”

Lutz will intern for the National Rural Electric Cooperative Administration (NRECA), the national service organization for elective cooperatives throughout the country.  He will work in the government relations department helping to organize grassroots outreach, reviewing legislation and helping to better represent electric cooperatives in our nation’s Capital.

In addition he will assist with special projects in the office of NRECA Chief Executive Officer Jo Ann Emerson.  Jo Ann Emerson is the wife of the late Congressman Emerson and former Congressional representative for Missouri’s 8th  Congressional District.

The Emerson Fellowship commemorates the contributions and personal qualities of Congressman Bill Emerson, Westminster Class of ’59, who contributed significantly to the shaping of American public policy over five decades.

This important fellowship is an annual competitive award available only to Westminster College students that provides a unique opportunity to learn about the political system through direct exposure to public and private sector roles in public policy development.

The Emerson Fellowship is chosen by a national selection committee composed of members and friends of the Emerson family, former Fellows and select Westminster alumni.

Lutz is the son of Dr. and Mrs. Mike Lutz and a 2012 graduate of California High School.
