Doing More For His Alma Mater—Dr. Bruce Brookby

Giving--Dr-Bruce-BrookbyMore Westminster students will have the financial assistance they need to gain a Westminster College diploma and the academic environment of the College will be enhanced, thanks to the recent financial pledge of Dr. Bruce Brookby, Class of ’68, from Bartlesville, Oklahoma.

Established in fall, 2002, due to the generosity of Dr. Brookby and his parents, the Brookby Family Scholarship is offered to natural science and pre-med students.  Those who maintain a 3.5 grade point average can have their scholarship renewed every year. Thus far, 28 scholarships have been given to Westminster students from the $210,000 Dr. Brookby and his parents originally donated.

With his new $50,000 commitment, many more Westminster students will receive the help they need to finish college.   The new scholarship funds will be available in $10,000 increments, starting with the new academic school year and will continue to grow until they meet their maximum amount in fiscal year 2019.

In addition, Dr. Brookby has pledged another $5,000 annually to the Westminster Fund as a current active member of the Westminster Board of Trustees. The Westminster Fund provides vital support for all facets of campus life from quality teachers, classrooms, and leadership programs to scholarships and student activities.

Dr. Brookby is also very involved in promoting Westminster in the Tulsa area through his support of alumni events and student recruiting.

His Westminster roots run deep.  As an undergraduate biology major, he was a member and past president of the Missouri Gamma Chapter of Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity and a member of Omicron Delta Kappa.

He is a past President of the Westminster College Alumni Council and received the Alumni Award of Merit in 1990.  He has served on the Westminster College Board of Trustees since 1990 and was Chairman of the Board from July 2009 through June 2011.
