2015 First-Year Davis United World College Students Honored

Westminster College international students who are first-year Davis United World College (UWC) Scholars were honored with a luncheon and recognition ceremony Thursday, Jan. 29, in the Marsh-Jones Room of the Mueller Leadership Hall.

Westminster College President Dr. George B. Forsythe offered brief remarks and presented seven of the 13 honorees with crystal globes from the Davis Foundation. The globes symbolize the values and meaning of the UWC and their future leadership potential as UWC Scholars.

Westminster students honored at the ceremony included Mahfoud Bouad, Algeria; Manoj Ghimire, Nepal; Fatima Jafari, Afghanistan; Rupa Kumari, India; Abdullah Mahdi, Iraq; Xolo Msomi, South Africa; and Lustania Savio Dos Reis Fernandes, Timor-Leste. Not in attendance but also first-year UWC students at Westminster: Oyusuvd Byambaa, Mongolia; Mboni Maumba, Tanzania; Gan-Ochir Nyamdorj, Mongolia; Isidora Simeunovic, Serbia; Meili Tuyisenge, Rwanda; and Fathimath Shafa, Maldives.

According to a recent ranking from U.S. News & World Report, Westminster ranks eighth among all national liberal arts colleges for the highest percentage of international students. Westminster College is well known for its diverse student population, representing 75 different countries. Seventeen percent of the Westminster student body hails from a different country.
