Second Annual Greek Challenge Raises $1.5 Million for Westminster Fund

The Second Annual Greek Challenge wrapped up Saturday, March 31 and brought in more than $1.5 million dollars in gifts and new pledges to the Westminster Fund. The Phi Delta Theta fraternity won the competition for most dollars raised, bringing in a total of $314, 515. Phi Kappa Psi won for the best alumni participation with 22.43% of the fraternity’s alumni contributing to the challenge.

The Greek Challenge is an annual fundraising drive in which 11 Westminster Greek organizations, both past and presently active, set specific fundraising goals by chapter and compete to raise support for their Alma Mater.

Two Greek alumni issued matching challenge grants to their respective organizations this year, and both were met. Jack Baumstark ‘67 ΣΑΕ matched his Sigma Alpha Epsilon brothers’ donations dollar-for-dollar up to $100,000. Jack Pahlmann ’62 ΦΚΨ also matched his Phi Kappa Psi brothers’ donations with a $25,000 challenge grant.

In a message to his fellow Phi Delta Theta alumni, Tim Steinbeck ’82 ΦΔΘ said of the Phi Delt victory, “I want to thank everyone for their participation in this year’s Greek Challenge. We are pleased that we were able to raise the most of any Greek organization for 2018 through the generosity of the individuals that donated. Special thanks to Board of Trustees Chair John Panettiere ‘59 for his $250,000 gift.”

Steinbeck continued, “Sustaining Westminster is the way to keep Greek life healthy as well, so pledge your time, your talents and your money to both.”

Contributions to Greek Challenge go to the Westminster Fund, which funds scholarships, academic programs, leadership initiatives, career development efforts, and a wide range of other vital college programs.
