2013 Women’s Soccer Season In Review

The Westminster women’s soccer team closed out the 2013 season with a 6-12-1 overall record. The Westminster Blue Jays ended their St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) play in 6th place with a 4-5-0 record.

Sophomore midfielder Eileen Koppy was named to the SLIAC All-Conference First Team. She tallied 16 points with seven goals and two assists for the season. She finished the season with a .633 shot on goal percentage and two game winning goals. Eileen was awarded SLIAC Offensive Player of the Week for the week of September 30-October 6.

Sophomore forward Tayisah Pohtos (Ousley) was named to the Honorable Mention All-Conference Team and the All-Sportsmanship Team. She racked up 25 points with one assist and 12 goals, including 2 game winning goals, during the season. Tayisah was awarded SLIAC Offensive Player of the Week for the week of September 9-15.

Freshman Ellen Woolsey entered the season as starting goalkeeper after senior goalkeeper Cassie Rossman fell to a season ending injury. Ellen racked up 121 saves and four shutouts in her 6-12-1 season. She was awarded SLIAC Defensive Player of the Week twice during the season.

The women’s soccer team had seven student-athletes named to the SLIAC Academic All-Conference Team. These student- athletes are a member of the varsity team, are a sophomore, junior or senior and marked a 3.5 or higher cumulative GPA. Members of the Academic All-Conference Team are: Monica Bittner, Alyssa Busken, Katie Koonce, Grace Sanford, Ashley Schimmel, Katie Seyer and Erin Slay.

The women’s soccer team graduates four seniors: Beau Reiske, Cassie Rossman, Katie Seyer and Erin Slay.
