2013 Volleyball Season In Review
The 2013 Westminster women’s volleyball team closed out their season in the 2013 St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) Tournament Semifinals. The team finished with a 58.6 winning percentage, the highest winning percentage since 2001’s season where they completed the season with a 72.7 winning percentage (24-9).
The Blue Jays secured 3rd place in the SLIAC after posting a 12-6 conference record. They attended the SLIAC Tournament and faced Webster University in the Semifinal round for the fourth consecutive year. The Blue Jays fell to Webster 0-3, ending their chance at the SLIAC Tournament Title and a AQ to the NCAA Tournament.
Freshman Riley Lawrence was named the 2013 SLIAC Newcomer of the Year and to the SLIAC All-Conference First Team after averaging 3.57 kills per set and leading the team and ranking third in the conference with 353 kills. She was also named to the SLIAC All-Tournament Team.
Sophomore Lexi Collier was named to the All-Conference First Team also. She broke the season hitting percent record and led the SLIAC with a .366. Lexi finished out the season ranked 24th in the nation for her hitting percentage. After the 2013 season, she moved into 3rd in Westminster’s career blocks with 190 throughout her two years. In the season’s opening tournament, Lexi was named to the Augustana Invitational All-Tournament Team.
Freshman Amanda Kiso was named to the SLIAC All-Conference Second Team. After spending four weeks in the NCAA Division III top 20 for her hitting percentage, Kiso finished the season in the conference for hitting percentage (.358). She also finished second in the conference for blocks per set with 1.03.
Freshman setter Kayla Reeg was named to the SLIAC All-Conference Honorable Mention Team. Reeg led the Blue Jays with 1,048 assists on the year. She led the conference in assists per set with 10.08 and moved into 3rd for Westminster’s career assists with 1,048 throughout her one year as a Blue Jay.
Senior Caroline Abraham was named to the SLIAC All-Sportsmanship Team.
The Blue Jays graduate two seniors: Caroline Abraham and Andrea Kiser.
